When NBC’s Community premiered last season, critics agreed that the show was sure to be a hit. Armed with a delightful cast — reviewers were pleasantly surprised by Joel McHale and Chevy Chase’s acting abilities — each episode delivers a sharp, quirky and often laugh-out-loud funny script.
All of these things set the program apart from lesser sitcoms, but it is the way that Community capitalizes on the community college experience that makes it really stand out.
Season 2 is back!

Community also debuted a first-ever Twittersode before the premiere last night, featuring the handles of many notable characters on the show. You can check the full transcript here.
No Need for Secrecy
Jeff and Britta’s game of love reaches a high point.
Today, nymag.com’s Vulture blog talks to Community creator Dan Harmon about his plans for season two, dream guests for the show, and enlisting the aid of Betty White to take on Big Bang Theory, which Community will go up against on Thursday nights:
On Betty White:
Betty White happened to be hanging around and I thought, Gee, she seems to be popping. She’s a young face in TV! Truly, though, it was sort of serendipitous. I think maybe it was because of a relationship with Jeff Zucker — not that kind of relationship — but she did SNL. And then it was like, “Would you want her to do the first episode?” And I was like, “Yeah, absolutely.”
On big episodes next season:
I do want to send them to outer space. I know you can’t literally send them to outer space. But for the fourth episode of season two, I’m going to do the equivalent of sending them to outer space. And the Halloween episode — while last season was definitely a great episode, it wasn’t like paintball. This year, Halloween will be sort of tweaked. It will be heightened. I think it’s enough to say, I want Halloween to be the equivalent of paintball for the first six episodes
On dream guests:
I’ve been trying to get John Hodgman on the show for some time. I’m a Twitter buddy of his. He even came by the office and visited me. I just enjoy the guy. But actual dream? If I can get Bill Murray on the show … well, it will never happen. But that would be, on many levels … the top of the list. If I could wave a magic wand, I would start writing a very, very interesting character for him tomorrow, and have him woven into the series for a couple of episodes. Then I’d kill myself after the second season. I’d go, “I’m done.”
Mystery Team Sword Club, ASSEMBLE! The Donald Glover for SPIDER-MAN campaign has officially begun. It all started when the idea of casting an African-American Spider-Man in the upcoming Marc Webb SPIDER-MAN reboot was purposed and Glover’s name was casually thrown into the ring. Soon, Glover (who most recently stared in the cult hit MYSTERY TEAM and stars on NBC’s Community) caught wind of the idea and it’s all snowballed from there.
Obviously pleased with the idea of playing Spider-Man (honestly what nerd wouldn’t be?) Glover went to work on getting the buzz out. The “hash-tag” #donald4spiderman was created and the subsequent re-tweet bomb dropped.
Grab the Thursday comedy mantle by moving Monday hit Big Bang Theory to anchor the night.
Traditionally staid CBS is making the most dramatic move for the 2010-11 TV season. Seizing the opportunity to take over the Thursday-night comedy mantle, the network will move current Monday-night hit The Big Bang Theory—which recently landed a rich syndication deal and is averaging 14.1 million viewers and a 5.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic—to 8 p.m. on Thursday. It will lead into the new William Shatner comedy $#*! My Dad Says.
“Nothing is setting the world on fire [Thursday at 8 p.m.],” noted Kelly Kahl, senior executive VP of CBS Primetime.
Formerly the time slot of iconic NBC comedy Friends, this fall Big Bang will go head-tohead with NBC’s Community, a promising comedy that is still a long way from hit status. $#*! My Dad Says, based on the Twitter phenomenon, will be competing against NBC’s 30 Rock.
In one of the better April Fools Day stunts, the star of NBC’s Community and host of The Soup, Joel McHale, has taken over Ryan Seacrest’s Twitter and official website and crashed it! McHale is known for making fun of Seacrest on his weekly E! show, but in the spirit of April 1, the American Idol host is obviously in on the gag and up for a bit of fun.
A couple of the funnier Twitter posts from McHale read:
I’m Joel McHale. I’ve taken over Ryan’s Twitter and his treehouse. Anyone know how to bake cookies?
Ryan bought a yacht and will be sailing away on it as soon as he gets it out of the bottle.
The NBC store on twitter recently said: “Brainstorming for product ideas for @nbccommunity. What do the fans want?!” And of course people suggest bobble heads.
However Small Screen Scoop suggested something else: THE CONVERTIBLE ANNIE WIG.
THE CONVERTIBLE ANNIE WIG: Go from an asexual, motivated busy-body to a hottie next door with this wig. Comes in brunette “Annie Natural”, black “Shirley, You Do”, and blonde “Britta Wannabe”. With one artful unclipping and shake of your head, you’ll become a sexual amazon. And after you’ve had your fun, get back to work and put the clip back on up, lady.
See how it might look on Ken Jeong who endorsed the product on Twitter
