On landing an acting part on a sitcom:

Yeah, how did that happen? No, seriously, I’d always been looking for a sitcom — that was the whole reason I went on The Soup, for it to do the same thing for me as it did for Greg Kinnear, or at least if I could have 5 or 10 percent of his career, I’d be happy. And rarely do scripts make me laugh out loud, but there were a number of jokes in the Community pilot script that did that. Actually, I was on a plane, reading the script, and there was a guy watching that movie, What Happens in Vegas, that Ashton Kutcher movie, and he was getting mad at me because I was getting loud — laughing and interrupting his romantic comedy. So I thought that was a good sign.

On making the paintball episode:

I think it took about eight days to shoot 23 minutes of footage. You’d walk into the cafeteria, and they’d turned it upside down; there was a fire in it. And it was the most physical episode I’ve done, with the jumping and the stunts; it was like a boyhood fantasy of being in an action movie. They hired a paintball company and brought them in to shoot up the place. They just kept handing us loaded paintball gun after loaded paintball gun.

On buffing up:

I just starved myself and started doing push-ups every night. I didn’t have time to go to the gym, and I just chased my kids around. It was like when Rocky chased the chicken, in Rocky I, that’s basically what I was doing with the kids. And I just started doing push-ups as much as I could, ’cause knowing I was going to be naked, I didn’t want to be embarrassed. I think I ended up losing ten or fifteen pounds. I starved myself and ate hard-boiled eggs and salad. They also spray-tanned me because my skin is nearly translucent white.

While taping an “Idol Gives Back” promo, Seacrest was zinging off the one-liners left and right. When asked about “The Soup,” Seacrest said, “Yeah, I fired Joel McHale last week. No, I love Joel McHale. [laughs] Actually, Joel McHale walks my dog.”

In one of the better April Fools Day stunts, the star of NBC’s Community and host of The Soup, Joel McHale, has taken over Ryan Seacrest’s Twitter and official website and crashed it! McHale is known for making fun of Seacrest on his weekly E! show, but in the spirit of April 1, the American Idol host is obviously in on the gag and up for a bit of fun.

I’m Joel McHale. I’ve taken over Ryan’s Twitter and his treehouse. Anyone know how to bake cookies?

Ryan bought a yacht and will be sailing away on it as soon as he gets it out of the bottle.

Chevy Chase, meanwhile, ups his WASP quotient and dims his IQ to its lowest wattage, turning up as a would-be-hip baby boomer. Between McHale and Chase, Community has every TV comedy style covered.

And about Glee:

Has there ever been a TV show more aptly named than Glee? It both embodies and inspires exactly that quality. I’m not a musicals kinda guy. But this comedy is so good — so funny, so bulging with vibrant characters — that it blasts past any defenses you might put up against it. Glee will not stop until it wins you over utterly.

Joel was his usual funny self and he even pledged his support of Conan and offered him the hosting duties of The Soup!

This is a shot that just came out in the new issue of BlackBook magazine. From the photographer:

The magazine said the issue was the “spotlight” issue, so, every picture had to in some fashion incorporate a spotlight effect. I wanted to do something funny and goofier then my normal somber pictures. I also figured the actors would have an easier time if they could goof around with each other instead of trying to be serious or sexy. I had this vision of Mr. McHale and Ms. Jacobs as rich, NY socialites who had t break out of prison. The idea being that they are caught in the searchlight trying to escape. We had so much fun doing this and had many crazy fits of laughter. I’m a big fan of this shot. It was also, believe it or not, the very first shot we took. I’ve included the visual reference I had which was the iconic WINGS Band On The Runalbum cover.

The honor captured the attention of none other than Wendy Williams, who believes that troublemakers should get spanked.
