The LA Times has an article about Joel Mchale, the star of Community. Here are some of the highlights:
Joel McHale has hit TV shows on NBC (“Community” on Thursdays) and E! Entertainment (“The Soup”) and movie deals reportedly in development (“The Big Year” with Owen Wilson, Jack Black and Steve Martin and “What’s Your Number?” with Anna Faris), but he knew he had really arrived when he was asked to throw out the first pitch at Dodger Stadium last month.

“That was fantastic, but I was just worried about getting it over the plate,” said the Hollywood Hills resident with a laugh. “And I’m proud to say that I did not horribly embarrass my family.”

Now wife Sarah and sons Eddie, 5, and Isaac, 2, can hold up their heads when they’re around town with Big J.

‘Community’ Star Talks Of Fun With Guns, One ‘Bizarre’ Body and Two Returns

By , May 7, 2010

Fanscast has an interview with Gillian Jacobs, who plays the Britta; here are the highlights:

When Joel strips down for one scene, the guy is distractingly sculpted – like a life-size action figure.
I know, and it’s kind of intimidating. He’s already like a foot taller than me and I don’t have any muscle definition to speak of, and he has gone from being a fit guy to some sort of bizarre action-hero man.

Funny guys aren’t supposed to be that buff. Take it from me.
[Laughs] It’s a little disconcerting for other comedy guys, yeah. Joel’s upping the ante.

Speaking of that scene: Amid all this mayhem, Jeff and Britta find time for a close moment…
Given the fact that it is one episode in the arc of a season, you do have to have some character development, and I think it’s great the way they tie in the relationship. It’s a big moment for us in the middle of a big, fun episode.

And what are your own plans for “summer vacation”?
I just worked on this movie that shot in Chicago, and that was really fun. I had all my scenes with Ben McKenzie, from ‘Southland‘ and ‘The O.C.’ I plan to catch up on my sleep, travel a bit, and hopefully work a bit more!

411mania Interviews: Joel McHale from Community

By , April 27, 2010

411mania has an interview with Joel McHale from Community; here are some of the highlights:

effrey Harris: So what is going on with Community is it coming back for a second season?

Joel McHale: It is. It got picked up for 22 episodes.

Jeffrey Harris: So what is it like to be a part of this great, fun show and you got a hilarious ensemble cast?

Joel McHale: God bless you . . . 411mania, God bless you . . . thank you for watching.

Jeffrey Harris: So what’s going to happen with Jeff and Britta?

Joel McHale: You’ll see. You’ll know as things progress. It gets pretty crazy.

Jeffrey Harris: Between you and me, Jeff and Britta is my OTP. My One True Pairing.

Joel McHale: Wow! That is good and bad — no.

Jeffrey Harris: Are they yours though?

Joel McHale: I refer to our head writer and creator Dan Harmon, our genius . . . I think the character of Jeff that I play, he’s learning not to be diabolical.

Jeffrey Harris: At first he’s very sort of self-absorbed –

Joel McHale: Yeah.

Jeffrey Harris: But as he interacts with the group, he becomes a better person.

Joel McHale: Well everything has been stripped away from him and he is forced to kind of deal with these human relationships.

Jeffrey Harris: When I first started watching the show, I’m like, “This guy’s a jerk!” He’s a phony lawyer!

Joel McHale: Yeah.

Jeffrey Harris: It’s like why should I like this guy? But then as you see him interact with the other characters, he starts opening up and more and even helping them out like Pierce and Abed. It’s almost like the group is coming together as a family.

Joel McHale: Yeah. I mean there’s weird little hints that Dan drops in that’s like, the guy has not seen his mom in a long time, hasn’t told her he’s in school. So he’s got these hang-ups that he hasn’t dealt with. But yeah, these people he would never associate with become his family.

Joel McHale Hacks Ryan Seacrest’s Website & Twitter

By , April 2, 2010

In one of the better April Fools Day stunts, the star of NBC’s Community and host of The Soup, Joel McHale, has taken over Ryan Seacrest’s Twitter and official website and crashed it! McHale is known for making fun of Seacrest on his weekly E! show, but in the spirit of April 1, the American Idol host is obviously in on the gag and up for a bit of fun.

A couple of the funnier Twitter posts from McHale read:

I’m Joel McHale. I’ve taken over Ryan’s Twitter and his treehouse. Anyone know how to bake cookies?

Ryan bought a yacht and will be sailing away on it as soon as he gets it out of the bottle.

Naked Joel McHale On Community

By , March 5, 2010

If you missed Joel McHale striping down to his cue stick or you want to see it again here is your chance.

Last night’s episode has a storyline combining elements of The Color of Money, Braveheart and a European fetish video, E!’s Soup stud drops his balls in the pockets to prove that billiards don’t require fancy hipster pants…or underpants, for that matter.

Community Vs. Glee – Go Vote

By , March 4, 2010

For the month of March, Hulu is teaming up with fans and TV critic Ken Tucker (Entertainment Weekly) to see which of this season’s shows come out on top. This week Community is facing Glee, so make sure to visit and vote for Community!

Here is what EW say about Community:
The Soup‘s Joel McHale slips comfortably into a likable-wise-guy role as the star ofCommunity. McHale gets to flirt and insult to his heart’s content, and he’s impishly believable in both modes. Chevy Chase, meanwhile, ups his WASP quotient and dims his IQ to its lowest wattage, turning up as a would-be-hip baby boomer. Between McHale and Chase, Community has every TV comedy style covered.

And about Glee:

Has there ever been a TV show more aptly named than Glee? It both embodies and inspires exactly that quality. I’m not a musicals kinda guy. But this comedy is so good — so funny, so bulging with vibrant characters — that it blasts past any defenses you might put up against it. Glee will not stop until it wins you over utterly.
