“Community” creator and executive producer Dan Harmon joins director and executive producer Joe Russo; series producer Jake Aust; supervising sound editor/re-recording mixer Mark Binderl; and director of photography Gary Hatfield for a 2011 NAB Show session titled “Community: Intelligent Comedy Meets Innovative Production,” on Tuesday, April 12 at 2pm in the Content Theater. The 2011 NAB Show takes place April 9-14 in Las Vegas.
After lampooning everything from “The Godfather” to “Pulp Fiction” to “Dungeons and Dragons,” NBC’s sophomore series “Community” continues to stockpile fans. Its nimble cast, inspired writing and quirky performances have made the series a favorite with consumers and critics alike. Behind the scenes, imagination is also part of the show’s success, with the production team utilizing an innovative file-based production workflow, allowing producers to keep the series both flexible and economical.
As fans of NBC’s “Community” know, last night’s (Thursday) episode, “Critical Film Studies,” began with Jeff Winger (Joel McHale), wearing a suit straight out of “Reservoir Dogs” (OK, it was actually out of “Pulp Fiction,” but it’s the same suit), walking to to a dinner engagement.
In voiceover, he says, “It was my friend Abed’s birthday. I had met Abed at community college almost two years earlier. His obsession with pop culture had always alienated him. He’d quote movies, pretend his life was a TV show. He watched ‘Cougar Town.’ It was as if he didn’t want people to like him.”
At dinner, Abed (Danny Pudi) tells Jeff of his love of the ABC sitcom “Cougar Town,” co-created by Bill Lawrence and Kevin Biegel, and tells an elaborate story that ends with him having an accident in his pants (in the story he’s telling, not at dinner).
Great news for fans of television comedy and particularly the excellent shows airing Thursday nights on NBC: the network has officially decided to renew Community, Parks & Recreation andThe Office for another season! The news comes from TV Line where NBC Chairman Bob Greenblatt said “I am so pleased to renew these three outstanding comedies which are all at the top of their game creatively.”
Happy Friday! If you missed last night’s episode of Community, make sure to watch it here. Additionally, look below for hilarious highlight clips featuring Jeff in jail, Troy and Abed pleading their case to Britta, and this week’s EndTag that shows how close the study group has grown. In honor of International Women’s Day, BuddyTV decided to take a look at the smartest, strongest and most successful women on television show, and Community was among them:
At Greendale Community College, there is no one nicer than Shirley, more idealistic than Britta or smarter than Annie. Considering how much damage those ladies manage, that’s probably a good thing.
