“‘Community’ has not been canceled,” said NBC Entertainment chief Bob Greenblatt at the Television Critics Association 2012 winter press tour. “It will definitely be back in the spring,” he added, according to a tweet from TV Guide.

According to the peacock network’s chief, they’re still trying to figure out where “Community” makes the most sense, and at this time, he does not know anything about a fourth season for the show.

On Monday, NBC announced it was pulling the series from its mid-season schedule. (“30 Rock” will take its 8:30 Thursday time slot in January; “Community’s” third season will finish sometime in 2012.)

“Annie and Abed are going to have their scrapes and bruises with each other now that they’ll be cohabitating.”

Community: The Complete Second Season

Dan Harmon is trying to laugh about the ratings situation. Speaking with Deadline in a new interview, Harmon does recognize that the show pulls in low numbers — but also seems to believe that the ratings system is not entirely accurate:

“Nothing we really do works in terms of ratings. As far as critical respect goes, you can see a meteoric upward curve happening in the second season. If I only looked at our Nielsens, I wouldn’t even know that our show was on the air, much less if it was doing better or worse, because our audience is that small. The Nielsens were invented when television was splitting 200 million people three ways. Now, if somebody’s cat happens to turn on the TV, my numbers can double. It’s almost unrelated to what’s really happening.”
